The international section consists of a twin-tube tunnel, 8.3 km long, between Spain and France.
The tunnel is oriented north-south. The northern portal of the tunnel is located in the municipal district of Montesquieu des Albères, in France; the southen portal is located in the municipal district of La Jonquera, in Spain.
The tunnel consists of two independent bored tubes (tunnels), one per track, connected every 200 m by 41 cross passes for evacuation in emergency situations and 4 technical galleries that haouse the tunnel installations.
